Starting the Adventure
Our day began in Calgary, where we met our guide and hopped aboard the tour vehicle.
Almost immediately, the day felt different from our usual mountain trips.
Instead of checking maps, watching traffic, or wondering if we’d make it before parking filled up, we grabbed a few snacks from the complimentary refreshments on board and enjoyed the drive while someone else handled the planning.
It was surprisingly nice being able to simply look out the window and watch the mountains slowly come into view.
Moraine Lake Without the Stress
For us, Moraine Lake was one of the biggest reasons we booked this tour.
Since personal vehicles are no longer permitted on Moraine Lake Road, visiting requires either booking Parks Canada shuttles, cycling in, or joining a guided tour.

Our next stop was Lake Louise.
Even though it’s one of the most photographed places in Canada, it somehow still manages to exceed expectations.
Watching the bright red canoes drift across the turquoise water with the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in the background is one of those scenes that instantly reminds you why millions of people travel here every year.
We spent our time wandering the shoreline, taking photos, and simply enjoying having nowhere else we needed to be.
Emerald Lake
If we had to pick the hidden gem of the day, it would probably be Emerald Lake.
Compared to Lake Louise, everything felt a little quieter.
A little slower.
A little more peaceful.
We grabbed ice cream, watched people paddling across the lake in bright green canoes, and enjoyed taking our time walking along the shoreline.
It’s the kind of place that encourages you to slow down instead of rushing to the next viewpoint.
Takakkaw Falls
Our final stop took us into Yoho National Park to visit Takakkaw Falls.
At 384 metres tall, it’s one of Canada’s tallest waterfalls, and hearing the water thunder into the valley below is something that photos simply can’t capture.
After a full day of mountain lakes, finishing with one of the country’s most impressive waterfalls felt like the perfect ending.
Why We Loved This Experience
By the time we left Takakkaw Falls, one thing had become really clear to us.
It wasn’t just how beautiful each destination was.
It was how much more we enjoyed the entire experience because someone else was handling the logistics.
Usually, a Rockies day trip means constantly thinking about what’s next.
Is parking going to be available? Did we leave enough time? How much longer is the drive? Should we skip one stop so we can make it to another?
This time, none of those thoughts ever crossed our minds.
Instead, we spent the drive between each stop looking out the window, chatting with each other, and listening to our guide share stories about the area, the wildlife, and the history of the Canadian Rockies. Those little details added another layer to the experience that we simply wouldn’t have had if we’d been driving ourselves.
It honestly felt less like trying to check destinations off a list and more like taking the time to truly experience them.
For us, that’s what made the biggest difference.
