Calgary in Bloom 2026: Everything You Need to Know Before You Go

Some Calgary events are hard to understand until you actually experience them and Calgary in Bloom was one of those for us.

Before visiting, we knew there would be local vendors and colourful crochet installations, but we weren’t really sure what the market itself would feel like.

Then we arrived at Deerfoot City and immediately understood the name.

There was colour everywhere.

Flowers, crochet creations, handmade pieces and installations filled the space, and it didn’t take long before we were stopping every few feet because something else had caught our attention.

What Is Calgary in Bloom?

Calgary in Bloom is a community market celebrating local makers, small businesses, creativity and handmade art.

The colourful crochet flowers and installations are probably some of the first things you’ll notice, but they’re really only part of the experience.

As we wandered through the market, we found local vendors selling everything from plants and handmade goods to some seriously impressive crochet creations.

And there were definitely a few moments where we stopped and wondered:

How did someone actually make that by hand?

That ended up being one of our favourite parts of Calgary in Bloom. You aren’t just walking past products on tables you’re seeing how ridiculously creative some of Calgary’s local makers are.

It’s More Than Just Shopping

You definitely don’t need to come to Calgary in Bloom with a shopping list.

There were little activities to try, vendors to chat with, occasional freebies and plenty of things to stop and look at as you wandered around.

When we visited, the whole event had a really relaxed community feel.

There were plenty of families exploring, but it never felt overwhelmingly busy or like we needed to rush through to make room for someone else.

You can actually slow down, browse and see what catches your attention.

And honestly, that’s how we like exploring markets anyway.

You’ll Probably Stop for a Few Photos

This was one part we weren’t expecting to find so much of.

There were photo opportunities throughout Calgary in Bloom, including colourful floral installations, decorated mirrors, benches and dedicated displays.

Naturally, we ended up stopping at quite a few ourselves.

If you’re visiting with your kids, friends or partner, you’ll definitely find a few spots where you’ll want to pull out your phone.

And because so many of the installations are handmade, the photo spots actually feel connected to the event rather than just being something placed there for Instagram.

Is Calgary in Bloom Kid-Friendly?

Based on our experience, absolutely.

We saw plenty of families with kids while we were there, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it an easy event to wander through together.

Between the colourful displays, activities, vendors and photo installations, there’s enough happening that it doesn’t feel like you’re simply dragging the kids around while you shop.

It’s also an event you can explore at your own pace, which always helps when you’re bringing the whole family along.

How Much Time Should You Spend at Calgary in Bloom?

We’d give yourself around one to one-and-a-half hours to properly wander through Calgary in Bloom.

That should give you enough time to browse the vendors, look at the installations, take some photos and participate in anything that catches your attention.

Of course, you could easily spend longer if you’re shopping, stopping to talk with makers, participating in activities or grabbing something to eat.

This isn’t really an event we’d recommend rushing through.

The fun is seeing what you discover along the way.

Is Calgary in Bloom Worth Visiting?

For us, what made Calgary in Bloom memorable wasn’t one particular vendor, activity or installation.

It was the fact that we kept discovering something different.

One minute we were looking at a giant crochet creation, the next we were browsing something handmade by a local business, and a few minutes later we’d found another photo spot.

The market was colourful, relaxed, creative and family-friendly, and we left in a genuinely good mood.

Because sometimes we get so focused on finding our next big adventure that we forget how much there is to discover without leaving Calgary.
